New Funding Will Enable Assistance to Be Offered to More Lehigh Valley Homeowners

A significant, new, private contribution will enable more lower-income homeowners whose homes were damaged by “superstorm” Sandy to receive help than originally announced.  The task force of local organization that raised funds and recruited volunteers to assist victims of the storm will announce details of the expanded relief effort at a press conference to be held at the home of Pierre Morgan, whose home is one of those that will be repaired.  The news conference will take place on Thursday, December 13, at 2:30 PM, at 615 Aaron Street in south Bethlehem.

Dubbed “Stand Up to Sandy,” the relief effort was announced on November 14.  A task force raised $40,000 and, with a small army of volunteers and paid contractors, began providing up to $1,000 in assistance and repairs to the homes of homeowners who are elderly or disabled.  The maximum household income of those homeowners was set at double the poverty rate.

At the news conference, an update on the work done to date will be provided, the additional funding and source announced, and the new guidelines on eligibility and how the task force can help will be presented.
